SEN Experience

With over six years of professional childcare experience, Candidate 55 has worked across both nursery and private household settings, giving her a well-rounded understanding of child development and family life. She began her career in a nursery environment, where she gained hands-on experience with children across the early years age range and went on to complete her SCQF Level 7 qualification in Social Services (Children and Young People). During her four years at Kidzcare, she progressed to the role of Preschool Room Leader, where she led a team, delivered curriculum-based activities and supported children with a variety of additional needs and medical conditions.

She has experience caring for children who have varied need, having worked with children with Down’s syndrome, foetal alcohol syndrome, ADHD, selective mutism and autism. She is confident adapting her approach to meet individual needs, whether through the use of visual aids, sign language, structured routines or sensory tools. She has also supported children with complex medical requirements, including Type 1 diabetes (managed through an insulin pump) and severe peanut allergies requiring EpiPen use. This has equipped her with strong skills in managing both medical safety and inclusive care.

In 2024, Candidate 55 transitioned into a live-in nanny role in London, providing sole charge care for two school-aged children. Her responsibilities included managing daily routines, school runs, homework supervision, behaviour guidance, and meal preparation. She also ensured a structured, nurturing environment while maintaining household organisation through tasks such as laundry, cleaning, and meal planning.

Across her career, she has combined professional practice with academic study, currently undertaking a BA in Education Studies (Primary) with the Open University. This blend of hands-on experience and ongoing training has given her a strong foundation in child development, safeguarding, routine management, and family support. Confident in both group and sole charge settings, she brings a balance of structure, empathy, and professionalism to her work.
